Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Gallaudet University softball team lost 18-0 to Mount Mercy University and 8-0 to Carleton College in two five-inning games late on Wednesday night at the National Training Center in Claremont, Fla. The Bison (8-6) complete their six-game trip winless after starting the season on an eight-game winning streak.
Junior pitcher Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) got the lone hit in the first game against Mount Mercy (9-6), a single in the fifth and final inning to break up the no-hitter pitcher Catie Flaucher (4-3) had going. Sweigart suffered the loss as her season record drops to 4-2.
In the nightcap, Gallaudet went up against Carleton College (2-2) from Northfield, Minn. Knight pitchers Claire Willeck (1-0) and Jenny Forster combined to no-hit the Bison in five innings. This was the first time this season GU was no-hit in a game. The Bison only had four hits in the final four games in Florida.
Sophomore pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) gave up eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits and walked three in five innings.
Gallaudet returns home to host Valley Forge Christian College in a doubleheader at the GU Softball Complex on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. The doubleheader was supposed to be hosted by Valley Forge but was moved due to a unplayable field.
