Box Score 2 TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Gallaudet University softball team suffered its first two losses to the season here Sunday when the Bison were swept by Division II foe Bemidji State University 22-0, 8-0 in two five-inning games at Chain of Lakes Park Fields.
Gallaudet (8-2), who served as the home team in the first game, got down early as the Beavers (6-11) scored five or more runs in the first three innings and added four in the fourth and two in the fifth to closeout the 22 run victory on 24 hits as Gallaudet committed eight errors in the field.
Junior pitcher Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed 14 runs (11 earned) off 14 hits, one walk in two innings of work. Sophomore pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) relieved Sweigart and allowed the remaining eight runs (six earned) off 10 hits in the final three innings of play. The Bison only had six hits led by senior catcher Nicole O'Malley (Fredericksburg, Va.), who went 2-for-2. GU left eight runners on base in the loss.
Bemidji State, located in Northern Minnesota, was the home team in the second game and scored seven runs in the first inning off senior Alicia Johnson (San Jose, Calif.), who made her pitching debut this season. The Beavers scored eight runs on five hits while GU mustered five hits and left seven runners on base.
The Bison continue their Spring Break trip with games in Clermont, Fla., on Monday and Wednesday.
