Bison women's volleyball completes sweep at NEAC South Divisional weekend

READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team carried its momentum in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Divisional weekend, hosted by Penn St.-Berks, through Saturday as it picked up two more wins to stay perfect on the weekend. Gallaudet defeated Penn St.-Berks in five sets, 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 15-6) and beat Penn St.-Abington in straight sets (25-10, 25-20, 25-16).

The Bison (14-8, 6-1 NEAC) had a hard-fought first match as Penn St.-Berks pushed them to five sets. The Bison were able to stay composed after losing the fourth set as the Nittany Lions tied the set at 2-2. GU won the fifth and final set, decisively by the score of 15-6. GU played its fifth match that went five sets in 10 days. The Bison regrouped and turned around to face Penn St.-Abington and won quickly.

Junior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Bison on Saturday, as she tallied two consecutive double-doubles. Frowick had an impressive match against Penn St.-Berks as she tallied 27 kills and 22 digs. Frowick totaled 37 kills and 34 digs in Saturday's two matches. Senior Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) was right behind her as she posted 22 kills and 23 digs in addition to six aces in two matches. Sophomore TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) added seven service aces as well as a team-high 74 assists. Junior middle hitter Julia Wolff (Belleville, Ontario) was big for the Bison upfront as she tallied six blocked shots, including two solo blocks. The Bison accumulated an impressive amount of service aces (15) against Penn St.-Berks and six against Penn St.-Abington, building off of the previous day where they tallied nine service aces.

Gallaudet will return home for a non-conference matchup against Gettysburg College on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. The Bison will be celebrating its annual American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink night at the Field House. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match to show support for breast cancer awareness.
