Box Score WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team defeated Hood College in straight sets on Friday night before a festive homecoming crowd of 400 in the Field House.
The Bison (19-13) got off to a slow start and fell behind 6-14 early in the first set. This is the only lead the Hood College Blazers (5-19) had in the match. Gallaudet was able to overcome the deficit and won the set 25-19. The Blazers could not slow down the Bison momentum as Gallaudet took the second set 25-8 with the final point coming from a service ace by TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.). The Bison completed the sweep with a 25-14 third set win.
The Blazers were led by Amy Hagerdon who recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Kathryn Jones dished out 15 assists in the match.
Junior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) was a dominant force for the Bison as she recorded a team-high of 12 kills and 11 digs. Senior opposite hitter Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) was close behind with 11 kills and six digs. The Bison celebrated Peters last regular-season home match afterwards as Coach Lynn Ray Boren recognized Peters before the crowd. Freshmen hitters Giuletta Maucere (Frederick, Md.) and Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) each pitched in five kills in the win. Junior Julia Wolff (Belleville, Ontario) had the only block solo on the Gallaudet squad. Sophomore libero Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) and sophomore Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) combined for three service aces.
The Bison hit the road next weekend for two non-conference matches against Lebanon Valley College and University of Scranton in Annville, Pa., on Nov. 2 with the first match slated to begin at 1 p.m.
