Box Score 3 ASTON, Pa. - The Gallaudet women's volleyball team had a tough weekend as it dropped three consecutive matches on the road Friday and Saturday. Two of the matches were part of the Knights Fall Classic hosted by Neumann University in Aston, Pa.
The Bison (15-11) faced stout competition in the tournament as they opened with Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and went on to face the 12th ranked Eastern University Eagles. Gallaudet started strong against the Ospreys as it edged out a close first set, 25-22. Richard Stockton (19-5) was able to recover from the deficit, as it went on to win the next three sets against Gallaudet, 18-25, 15-25, 17-25, on Friday night.
The Bison took a break in the middle of the tournament and traveled to St. Davids, Pa., on Saturday morning to face No. 12 ranked Eastern University. The Eagles (21-2) proved to be too much to handle as the Bison fell short in three straight sets, 17-25, 17-25, 19-25.
Gallaudet returned to close out the tournament against Neumann University on Saturday afternoon. The Bison were forced to battle back as the Knights took a quick two set lead, 20-25 and 20-25. Gallaudet refused to go down easily as it took control and tied the match 2-2 as the Bison won, 25-21 and 25-19. The Knights (15-9) were able to recover and end the match in the final set 15-10. This is the seventh time this season the Bison have played to five sets and stand at 3-4 in those matches.
Junior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Bison with 40 kills and 40 digs over the weekend. Senior opposite hitter Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied 34 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) led the Bison offense with 101 assists including a career-high 52 assists against Neumann. Sophomore Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) recorded a team best eight service aces in the three matches.
The Bison travel to Owings Mills, Md., to play a non-conference match against No. 20 Stevenson University (27-1) on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
