Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team drove St. Mary's (Md.) College to five sets in the Seahawk's home opener Tuesday night but the Bison lost, 3-2, 25-20, 24-26, 21-25, 25-22, 4-15. This was Gallaudet's fourth match in the past six days that went the distance and the third consecutive loss in five sets for the buff and blue.
Gallaudet (10-8) came out strong and took the first set 25-20 before it dropped the second and third sets 24-26 and 21-25. The Bison battled back and didn't give in to the Seahawks (13-2) and took the fourth set 25-22. In the fifth and decisive set, St. Mary's was too tough winning 15-4.
The Bison were led by junior Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) and senior Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) upfront as the duo recorded double-doubles with 18 kills each and 27 and 16 digs, respectively. Sophomore libero Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) made 26 digs while sophomore Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) had three service aces. Sophomore TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) and freshman Tarja Lewis (Frederick, Md.) passed out 23 and 19 assists, respectively. Junior Alison O'Hara (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made three solo blocks upfront in the loss.
Gallaudet ventures back into North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play this weekend with the NEAC South Divisional Weekend hosted by Penn St.-Berks in Reading, Pa. The Bison (2-1 NEAC) will face St. Elizabeth (8-9, 0-3 NEAC) and Lancaster Bible (7-11, 2-1 NEAC) on Friday evening at 4 and 6 p.m., respectively.
