Schriver's career game gives Gallaudet its second straight win

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team came out strong against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Wilson College winning on the road Tuesday night, 64-53. This is the second time the Bison (4-15, 2-10 NEAC South) have won two games in a row this season, GU started the year 2-0.

The Bison took the lead, 2-0, 41 seconds into the first half on a Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.) jumpshot and never looked back. At the 9:09 mark GU went on an 8-0 tear that started with a defensive rebound by freshman guard Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) on a missed shot by Tara Fields (14 points), which allowed freshman forward Augusta Schriver (Middletown, Md.) to score two points. Stergio and Hudson each made a shot and junior guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) made two from the free-throw line on a Fields' foul. The Bison entered halftime up 33-18.

The Phoenix (2-13, 0-12 NEAC South) tried to make a come back in the second half as they outscored the Bison 35-31. Wilson whittled the lead down to six, 37-31, on a Vanessa Whitfield (15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists) free throw with 16:23 left to play. Gallaudet had a season high 60 rebounds as a team, 41 of them on the defensive end of the court. GU also made a season high 20 free throws. 

Schriver had a career game as a she earned her first double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds to go with one steal and one block. Stergio racked up her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Weiss, the third Bison in double digits, netted 10 points, with three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

The Bison will try to extend their winning streak to three when they return home to host conference foe Morrisville St. (1-17, 1-9 NEAC North) on Saturday, Feb. 2, at noon.
