Gallaudet women's volleyball wins first set before Johns Hopkins takes the match

BALTIMORE – Gallaudet University jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over in-region power Johns Hopkins University on the road Thursday night before the host Blue Jays won three straight sets to take the match, 3-1.

Gallaudet (10-4) won the first set 25-22 before it lost the second set by the reverse score 22-25. JHU went on a 10-0 run in the third set as the Blue Jays won 25-8. GU hung tough in the fourth and final set but lost 20-25. Johns Hopkins (13-0) is off to its best start in program history.

Senior outside hitter Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) had 14 kills and eight digs while sophomore Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) added 13 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore setter Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) passed out 39 assists while freshman Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) made a team best 17 digs.

GU, two-time defending North Eastern Athletic Conference champions, will dive into conference action this weekend when the Bison play three matches in two days at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y.
