GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It was a memorable start to the 2012 season for the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team as it won both matches Friday at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College.

Gallaudet (2-0) trailed Messiah College by two sets in the first match of the day but won the next three to take the thrilling match 18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-9. The Bison then turned around and faced Washington College and won in straight sets 25-17, 25-22, 25-22.

Sophomore Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Bison with 13 kills and eight digs in the win over Messiah. Sophomore Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) passed out 41 assists and added three service aces. Seniors Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) and Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) knocked down nine kills each while Whited picked up five digs in the win. Freshman libero Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) made 12 digs in her collegiate debut.

In the second match of the evening, Frowick led all Bison hitters with 12 kills, nine digs and two block assists. Whited followed with 11 kills and seven digs. Tubert passed out 36 assists to increase her one-day total to 77. Kristin Lee led Washington (0-2) with eight kills and 11 digs in defeat.

The Bison will play two more matches on Saturday at the Battlefield Classic as Gallaudet goes up against Rochester Institute of Technology and Penn St.-Altoona. The first match for the Bison will begin at Noon.
