Box Score READING, Pa. – Three Bison scored in
double figures on Friday night but it was not enough as the
Gallaudet University men's basketball team fell to North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Penn St.-Berks. The Bison led
by as many as 12 points in the second half but could not hold on
and fell to the Nittany Lions by a score of 75-72 in the conference
opener.
Senior guard Layton
Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) led Gallaudet (3-5, 0-1 NEAC)
with 20 points which he divided evenly between the first and second
halves. He has now reached double digits in all but one contest
this season. Senior center Danny Kelly
(Strongsville, Ohio) also scored in double figures as he posted 16
points on 7-for-11 shooting. He also added six rebounds and two
steals. Senior guard Jocus
Houston (Baton Rouge, La.) was the third Bison to
reach double-digit scoring as he also put up 16 points, 11 of which
came in the second half.
Gallaudet led 41-36 at the break and went on a run early in the
second half to extend the lead to 12 with just under 17 minutes
left in the contest. The Bison did not give up the lead until
junior guard Dontez Reid knocked down a three-pointer to give the
Nittany Lions a 73-72 advantage with just 54 seconds remaining in
the game. PSU (1-7, 0-1 NEAC) hit two free throws down the stretch
to put the game away. Seeber threw up a shot from beyond half court
as the buzzer sounded but his shot hit off the backiron of the rim
as the Lions celebrated the win.
The PSU bench provided the spark to push the squad past the
Bison. Despite shooting similar field goal percentages, 46.3
percent for Gallaudet and 50.9 percent for Penn St.-Berks, the
Nittany Lion bench players outscored their Bison counterparts
29-15.
The Bison will look to pick up their first NEAC victory of the
season Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. when they take on the Lancaster
Bible College Chargers on the road.
