Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) had a hand in the first six
touchdowns scored by Gallaudet University as the Bison defeated
Becker College, 48-26, on the road Saturday before a crowd of 1,236
at Alumni Field in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)
game. The win keeps Gallaudet's conference title hopes alive, as
the Bison (5-2, 3-1 ECFC) will enter the home stretch of the
regular-season with three key ECFC contests left on the docket.
GU jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind two touchdown runs of two
and 38 yards, respectively, from Ryan Bonheyo (six carries, 65
yards). Todd, the younger of the two brothers, ran in from six
yards out at the six-minute mark to give Gallaudet a 21-7
advantage, the same margin it held at halftime. Todd Bonheyo
finished the game with 14 carries for 88 yards and three touchdowns
and he completed 7-of-14 passes for 104 yards, one touchdown and
one interception.
The Bison defense smothered the Becker run game as they limited
the Hawks (2-5, 1-3 ECFC) to 22 carries for 16 net yards. Becker
quarterback Robert Baker was hard to slow as he completed a
school-record 42-of-65 passes for 446 yards, three touchdowns and
one interception. Baker's top targets were Shaun Llewellyn (16
receptions, 105 yards, two touchdowns) and Luis Sanchez (13
receptions, 159 yards) as the two combined for 29 receptions and
264 yards.
Gallaudet outscored Becker 27-19 in the second half as Todd
Bonheyo started the third quarter with a 34-yard touchdown run and
the fourth quarter with a 37-yard touchdown run. Todd Bonheyo threw
a 12-yard score to senior wide receiver Ryne
Worsham (Chicago, Ill.) at the four-minute mark in the
third quarter as the Bison led 34-13.
Becker pulled to within 14 points when it scored a touchdown on
a 31-yard throw by Baker to Nicholas Sherman with 48 seconds left
in the third quarter. Gallaudet responded with Todd Bonheyo's third
rushing touchdown on the day to start the fourth quarter.
GU put the game away with 4:02 left in regulation when freshman
running back Braxton
Baker (Webb City, Mo.) scampered in from 30 yards
out.
Senior linebacker Tom Pangia
(Hammonton, N.J.) led the Bison with 11 tackles and three tackles
for a loss of 10 yards. Junior defensive end Adham
Talaat (Springfield, Va.) had 3.5 tackles for a loss
of 24 yards and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 21 yards in the win.
Sophomore strong safety Akeem
Guidry (Baton Rouge, La.) had the lone interception
for the Bison. Becker's Melvin Booker had 14 tackles (eight solo)
for the Hawks in the loss.
GU will host first-place Castleton State College on Saturday,
Oct. 27, at 1:30 p.m. for homecoming at Hotchkiss Field. The
Spartans enter with a 5-2 overall record and 4-0 mark in conference
play.
