Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball returned to the Field House on Tuesday night and came away with a 53-40 victory over Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.
Gallaudet (5-13, 3-9 NEAC South Division) controlled the game throughout as the Bison outrebounded the Phoenix, 44-34, scored 25 points off 35 turnovers committed by Wilson and made a season-high 23 steals. Sophomore guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) netted 19 points off the bench as GU's reserves outscored Wilson, 28-0. Latham made 3 of 6 shots from three-point range and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Freshman forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had a nice first half as she scored five points and seven rebounds as she finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Claire Tucker (Middletown, Md.) added 13 points, a game-high six steals and five rebounds. Freshman forward Arlene Ngalle (Washington, D.C.) continues her development with five points, four rebounds and four steals off the bench.
Wilson (2-14, 2-9 NEAC South) was led by junior guard Tara Fields who scored 15 of her 18 points in the first half while freshman forward Ashlee Yealy added 10 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
The two teams had their fare share of turnovers throughout the game (69 total) but Gallaudet's defense did a good job of preventing Wilson from capitalizing on the 34 turnovers, second most this season, by GU. The Phoenix scored nine points off the Bison turnovers. Gallaudet led 31-23 at halftime as the Bison kept things fresh with multiple substitutions, 23 in the first half.
The Bison will next hit the road this weekend and face Morrisville State in a conference game at 3 p.m.
