Gallaudet's starters shine in critical NEAC game with Penn St.-Abington

Box Score

ABINGTON, Pa. – Gallaudet University men's basketball coach Jeb Barber knew entering Saturday's pivotal North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) showdown on the road against Penn St.-Abington that his seasoned veterans would have to step up. The GU starting five did just that as they accounted for 88 percent of the Bison offense in their 91-78 victory.

All five starters finished in double figures for Gallaudet (9-9, 7-3 NEAC South Division) as they combined for 80 points, 39 rebounds and 13 assists. GU, who has won two in a row, will enter February with four conference games left on its regular-season schedule. The Bison currently sit in second-place in the South Division behind unbeaten Penn St.-Harrisburg.

Senior guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.) led the way with 22 points, 13 rebounds and six assists followed by senior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. The pair tallied 12 points each in the first half where Gallaudet led 51-45.

Senior Daniel Fava (Baltimore, Md.) had a great game on both ends of the court. The 6-foot-4 forward scored a season best 15 points to go with five rebounds while he limited Penn St.-Abington's 6-foot-6 forward Mike Marvin to just six points and 13 rebounds. The freshman had 30 points just four days prior against Lancaster Bible College. Senior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) and junior guard Jocus Houston (Baton Rouge, La.) added 13 points and seven and six rebounds, respectively, to complete the scoring from the Bison starting five.

Penn St.-Abington (7-12, 4-4 NEAC South) was paced by Max and Will Alton who poured in 17 and 14 points, respectively, as Will added eight rebounds. Mike Colacci was the third Nittany Lion in double figures with 12 points. This is the third consecutive loss for Abington. Both teams shot better than 56 percent from the field in the first half.

The Bison recorded new season-high marks for points (91), rebounds (52), field made (31) and tied their first-half total of 51.

GU will venture out of conference on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and travel to Front Royal, Va., to take on Christendom College at 7 p.m.
