Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men's soccer team played a hard-fought game Wednesday night against Potomac State College, a junior college from Keyser, W.Va. The Catamounts converted two penalty kicks on the way to a 4-0 victory before a crowd of 110 at Hotchkiss Field.
Gallaudet junior forward Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) was attacking the Catamount goal all game as he led the Bison with three shots, one of which bounced off the crossbar and just missed the back of the net. Sophomore midfielder Adam Moyer (Conneaut Lake, Pa.) attempted two shots, while defender Dylan White (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and midfielder Gabriel Carino (New York, N.Y.) added one shot apiece.
GU received an unfortunate foul call early in the game, which set up Potomac State's Jesse Casto, who scored on a penalty kick goal in the fifth minute. They also scored just before halftime to make it 2-0. Two more goals in the second half, including another penalty kick, made the final 4-0. The Catamounts had a deep team and made numerous substitutions throughout the night to keep fresh legs on the field.
Bison freshman goalkeeper Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) played the entire game and racked up nine saves, as Potomac State tallied 21 shots to Gallaudet's seven.
The Bison will open conference play on the road against Penn St.-Harrisburg on Saturday, September 17, at noon.
