Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) scored a season-high 22 points to lead Gallaudet University against cross-town rival Catholic University of America on Saturday night in a non-conference men's basketball game at the DuFour Center. Seeber and company fell short against the undefeated Cardinals, 80-65, as Catholic improved to 10-0 this season for the first time since the 1927-28 season.

Gallaudet (4-6) trailed Catholic by 22 points at halftime down 44-22 but came back against the Cardinals in the second half. GU knocked down a few three-pointers and was only down six, 61-55, after a Seeber three-pointer with just over nine minutes to play in regulation. The Bison went cold and made their final field goal at the 6:33 mark as Gallaudet trailed 72-60. GU outscored Catholic 43-36 in the second half.

Seeber scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half and finished with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in the loss. Senior forward Daniel Fava (Baltimore, Md.) scored a season-high mark 14 points to go with four rebounds and two blocks. Senior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) was limited to seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals as he made 2 of 11 shots from the field. Sophomore Tyler Crace (Westfield, Ill.) tallied eight points while junior guard Jocus Houston (Baton Rouge, La.) recorded nine points.

Catholic was led by forward Steve Limberiou, who had the only double-double in the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Shawn Holmes and Nate Koenig scored 14 and 13 points, respectively in the win. The Cardinals outrebounded the Bison 56-22 and scored 24 second chance points and outscored GU 34-22 in the paint.

This was the 117th meeting between the two District of Columbia schools since the rivalry began back in 1911. Last season, Gallaudet and Catholic played against each other in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South tournament quarterfinal round where the Cardinals won 66-58.

The Bison are now off until the New Year when Gallaudet will hit the road on Saturday, Jan. 7, to play at Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game that will tip at 2 p.m.
