Box Score 2 READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University
women's volleyball team, the defending North Eastern Athletic
Conference (NEAC) champions, took a big step Saturday in conference
play with two victories against South Division rivals. The Bison
(12-5, 4-0 NEAC) defeated College of St. Elizabeth and Lancaster
Bible College in straight sets, 3-0, on the campus of Penn
St.-Berks.
All of Gallaudet's wins this season have come by shutout. The
Bison have not dropped a set in a NEAC match this season. The Bison
will go up against Penn St.-Berks and Penn St.-Abington tomorrow
(Sunday, October 3) at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively. Last season,
Berks handed the Bison their only conference loss a 3-2 thriller at
home.
The Bison took down the Eagles from St. Elizabeth by the score
of 25-14, 25-11, 25-11. Junior Mari
Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) recorded a
match-high 11 kills on 15 attempts and added seven digs. Junior
outside hitter Ann Whited
(Fishers, Ind.) had eight kills, three digs and one service ace.
Freshman setter Sarah
Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) passed out 23 assists and had
three blocks and three service aces. Fellow freshman Kali
Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) served up six service aces and
made 10 digs. Junior Krystal
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) provided a spark
off the bench with five service aces as the Bison tallied 16 aces
against the Eagles (4-10, 2-3).
In the second match of the day, the Bison continued to dominate
with a 25-14, 25-6, 25-14 victory over Lancaster Bible (9-6, 4-2).
Frowick led the Bison with 10 kills, six digs and one service ace
while Whited knocked down nine kills to go with nine digs to just
miss a double-double. Tubert passed out 31 assists and made four
kills, a team-high four service aces and three blocks (two
solos).
