Box Score 4 SALISBURY, Md. – The Gallaudet University
volleyball team lost all four matches it played at the Salisbury
University Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Maggs Center
by the same 3-0 score. The young Bison squad went up against
several tough teams in the region including nationally ranked
Eastern University.
Gallaudet (5-8) has dropped five straight matches and eight of
its past nine matches after the Bison started the season 4-0. The
Bison have lost 13 consecutive sets in the past week.
The Bison lost their first match of the SU Invitational 20-25,
20-25, 21-25 to Baldwin-Wallace College from Berea, Ohio. GU then
quickly turned around and went up against No. 10 Eastern (14-0) and
lost 11-25, 12-25, 12-25.
On Saturday, the Bison started the day against former Capital
Athletic Conference rival and weekend host Salisbury. The Sea Gulls
got the best of the Bison 20-25, 16-25, 10-25. Gallaudet closed out
the two-day tournament with a rematch against Baldwin-Wallace in
the consolation bracket. The result was the same as the Yellow
Jackets won 25-16, 25-23, 25-17.
Gallaudet junior Micaela
Paulone (Fishers, Ind.) was named to the
all-tournament team. She finished the weekend with 32 assists and
35 digs. Fellow junior Paige
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) led the team
with 40 assists and had 19 digs. Sophomore hitters Ann Whited
(Fishers, Ind.) and Mari
Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) had 26 and 24
kills, respectively.
GU will make its long awaited home debut on Wednesday, September
22, against Goucher College (2-6). The non-conference match is
scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Prior to the start of the match the
Bison will receive their American Volleyball Coaches Association
Team Academic Award for the fourth consecutive year.
