FRONT ROYAL, Va. – The Gallaudet
University baseball team lost a doubleheader to Christendom College
(2-8) on the road Saturday afternoon. The Bison (4-33) lost the
first game 9-3 and narrowly dropped the second game 10-8.
In the first game, Gallaudet jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead
before Christendom scored two runs in the second and third and at
least one run over the next three innings en route to the 9-3 win.
Sophomore Danny Gabel (Staten Island) started the
game and suffered the loss while fellow sophomore Brook
Fox (Ballwin, Mo.) came into relieve Gabel and close out
the game. Offensively in the first game, five different players had
one hit led by sophomore Jeremy Shepps
(Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and junior Arthur Hess (North
Bellmore, N.Y.) recorded a RBI each.
In the second game, Gallaudet started the game with a bang as
the Bison scored five runs in the top of the first inning. The big
blow came from Shepps who cranked a two-run home run in the first.
He finished the game with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Hess
added two hits and two RBI. Sophomore Ryan
Hastings (Cherry Valley, Mass.) matched Shepps with three
hits. Freshman Angelo Leccesse (North Bellmore,
N.Y.) also had two hits in the loss. The Knights scored eight runs
in the first three innings. GU added three runs in the top of the
fifth inning to cut the Christendom lead to one, 9-8. Junior Zane
Noschese (Pittsburgh, Pa.) pitched the complete game and took the
loss.
Gallaudet has canceled its make-up game with Christendom
scheduled for Monday, April 26, as this nine-inning game will not
be made up. GU will finish the 2010 season at home on Tuesday,
April 27, against Valley Forge Christian College (7-15). The
nine-inning game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Hoy Field.
