Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's
basketball dropped a 61-52 decision on the road Saturday against
Lancaster Bible College in non-conference action.
Gallaudet (5-18) was led offensively by senior guard
Johnny Jackson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) who scored 16
points, grabbed six rebounds and had two steals. Freshman forward
Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) earned his fourth
double-double of the season as he netted 13 points and ripped down
11 rebounds. Sophomore Tony Tatum (Birmingham,
Ala.) added eight points, six rebounds and two steals in the loss.
Lancaster Bible (12-12) was paced by Kevin Keltner's 27 points,
19 of which came in the second half after the two teams went into
halftime tied at 26-26. Keltner added eight rebounds and seven
assists. The Chargers bench outscored the Bison 22-10.
The Bison held a 44-37 lead with 12:17 left in regulation after
freshman guard Jocus Houston (Baton Rouge) drained
a three-pointer. Keltner helped to erase the Gallaudet lead,
minutes later, as he hit a jumper and three-pointer on back-to-back
possessions to give Lancaster Bible a 47-46 lead with eight minutes
left. That sparked an 11-2 run by LBC as Keltner scored all 11
points.
Gallaudet pulled to within four, 56-52, with 34 seconds left in
the game but the Chargers iced the game at the free-throw line with
six straight points in the final seconds.
The Bison outrebounded the Chargers by two, 35-33, and shot 39.2
percent from the field (20-for-51) compared to the 36.7 percent
(22-for-60) mark by LBC.
GU will close out its 2009-10 season tomorrow (Sunday, February
21) at home against York (Pa.) College in the final regular-season
Capital Athletic Conference game for both teams in the Field House
at 2 p.m. The two teams were originally scheduled to play back on
February 11 but the game was postponed due to the blizzard that hit
the District of Columbia.
