Lancaster Bible rallies past Gallaudet, 61-52

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball dropped a 61-52 decision on the road Saturday against Lancaster Bible College in non-conference action.

Gallaudet (5-18) was led offensively by senior guard Johnny Jackson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) who scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and had two steals. Freshman forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) earned his fourth double-double of the season as he netted 13 points and ripped down 11 rebounds. Sophomore Tony Tatum (Birmingham, Ala.) added eight points, six rebounds and two steals in the loss.

Lancaster Bible (12-12) was paced by Kevin Keltner's 27 points, 19 of which came in the second half after the two teams went into halftime tied at 26-26. Keltner added eight rebounds and seven assists. The Chargers bench outscored the Bison 22-10.

The Bison held a 44-37 lead with 12:17 left in regulation after freshman guard Jocus Houston (Baton Rouge) drained a three-pointer. Keltner helped to erase the Gallaudet lead, minutes later, as he hit a jumper and three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to give Lancaster Bible a 47-46 lead with eight minutes left. That sparked an 11-2 run by LBC as Keltner scored all 11 points.

Gallaudet pulled to within four, 56-52, with 34 seconds left in the game but the Chargers iced the game at the free-throw line with six straight points in the final seconds.

The Bison outrebounded the Chargers by two, 35-33, and shot 39.2 percent from the field (20-for-51) compared to the 36.7 percent (22-for-60) mark by LBC.

GU will close out its 2009-10 season tomorrow (Sunday, February 21) at home against York (Pa.) College in the final regular-season Capital Athletic Conference game for both teams in the Field House at 2 p.m. The two teams were originally scheduled to play back on February 11 but the game was postponed due to the blizzard that hit the District of Columbia.
