Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet
University volleyball team got back in the win column on Wednesday
night with a 3-0 victory over cross town rival Catholic University
of America at the Field House. The Bison earned their 20th win on
the year. This is the sixth time in the past seven seasons the Buff
and Blue has reached 20 wins in a season. Coach Lynn Ray
Boren has led five of those teams to 20 wins in his six
seasons at the helm.
Gallaudet (20-11) participated in the American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink Night, a cancer awareness
initiative run by the Side-Out Foundation as the Bison wore special
pink jerseys while fans got into the spirit by sporting the color
pink in some fashion to show their support. The money raised will
be donated to the Side-Out Foundation. If you were unable to make

The Bison battled back and forth with Catholic (15-13) but
earned the hard fought win 25-19, 25-23, 23-18.
Sophomores Mari
Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) and Ann
Whited (Fishers, Ind.) recorded double-doubles with 11
kills and 12 digs, 12 kills and 10 digs, respectively. Junior
libero Micaela
Paulone (Fishers, Ind.) was the other Bison to reach
double figures in digs with 10. Junior setter Paige
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) passed out 34
assists and added two solo blocks. Paige's younger sister
Krystal
Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) recorded a
game-high eight service aces as the Bison had 10 in the match.
Sophomore Jessica
Israel (Frederick, Md.) and freshman Michelle
Mansfield-Hom (Frederick, Md.) helped upfront where
Israel had eight kills and three blocks and Mansfield-Hom chipped
in four kills and one block. Sophomore Lauren
Benedict (Germantown, Md.) and freshman Shayna
Unger (Middletown, Md.) saw action in all three
sets.
Catholic was led by sophomore outside hitter Claudia Jean who
had a team-high 11 kills and 14 digs while junior setter Michaela
Carroll passed out 22 assists.
Gallaudet will hit the road this weekend and head to Lebanon
Valley, Pa., to face University of Scranton and Lebanon Valley
College on Saturday, October 23, for two matches.
