Bison Fall to York in CAC Matchup

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The York College Spartan baseball team swept a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader from Gallaudet University on Saturday in Washington, D.C. The Spartans were slated to host the twin bill but Jaquet Field was still too wet for play. The Spartans won both games by identical 10-3 scores. The Bison fall to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the Capital Athletic Conference.  York improves to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

In game one, the Bison took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second. That lead didn't last very long as the Spartans put up a two spot with a Chris Young RBI triple and a Adam Hegedus RBI single.

York added three runs in the third to push the lead to 5-1. York continued to increase the lead as the Green and White scored three more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Bison got a pair of cosmetic runs in the top of the seventh to provide for the final margin of victory for York.

Sophomore Andy Rosenzweig started and earned the win as he allowed a run on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks. He improves to 2-1 with the victory. Jeremy Shepps took the loss for the Bison as he allowed eight runs on nine hits with two walks in five innings of work.

Offensively, Young led the Spartans as he was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hegedus was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore Rob Klinck was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Zane Noschese led Gallaudet with two RBI while John Moore was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

In the nightcap, the Bison again jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a single run in the first inning. The Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the first followed by three runs in the second and six in the third to put the game out of reach early. The Bison again tallied a pair of cosmetic runs in the top of the seven to provide for the final 10-3 margin.

Freshman KC Beshore started and picked up his first collegiate win as he allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Damian Bertuzzi threw the final three innings, strikeout out six in his first collegiate appearance.

Ryan Hastings went the route for Gallaudet as he allowed ten runs on 10 hits with five walks and a strikeout in six innings. He falls to 1-1 with the loss.

Noschese, Schepps and John Moore each had two hits for the Bison. Schepps drove in two and scored another while Moore had the Bisons' other RBI.

The Bison are back in action on Monday when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Lancaster Bible College Chargers.
