WASHINGTON, D.C. - The York College Spartan
baseball team swept a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader from
Gallaudet University on Saturday in Washington, D.C. The Spartans
were slated to host the twin bill but Jaquet Field was still too
wet for play. The Spartans won both games by identical 10-3 scores.
The Bison fall to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the Capital Athletic
Conference. York improves to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the
conference.
In game one, the Bison took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the
second. That lead didn't last very long as the Spartans put up a
two spot with a Chris Young RBI triple and a Adam Hegedus RBI
single.
York added three runs in the third to push the lead to 5-1. York
continued to increase the lead as the Green and White scored three
more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Bison got a pair
of cosmetic runs in the top of the seventh to provide for the final
margin of victory for York.
Sophomore Andy Rosenzweig started and earned the win as he
allowed a run on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks. He
improves to 2-1 with the victory. Jeremy Shepps
took the loss for the Bison as he allowed eight runs on nine hits
with two walks in five innings of work.
Offensively, Young led the Spartans as he was 2-for-4 with two
RBI and two runs scored. Hegedus was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Sophomore Rob Klinck was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Zane Noschese led Gallaudet with two RBI while
John Moore was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In the nightcap, the Bison again jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a
single run in the first inning. The Spartans tied the game in the
bottom of the first followed by three runs in the second and six in
the third to put the game out of reach early. The Bison again
tallied a pair of cosmetic runs in the top of the seven to provide
for the final 10-3 margin.
Freshman KC Beshore started and picked up his first collegiate
win as he allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a
walk. Damian Bertuzzi threw the final three innings, strikeout out
six in his first collegiate appearance.
Ryan Hastings went the route for Gallaudet as
he allowed ten runs on 10 hits with five walks and a strikeout in
six innings. He falls to 1-1 with the loss.
Klinck led the Spartan offense as he was 3-for-3 with two RBI
and two runs scored. Sophomore C.T. Stanley went 2-for-4 with three
RBI and two runs scored. Stanley hit his third home run of the year
in the third inning.
Noschese, Schepps and John
Moore each had two hits for the Bison. Schepps drove in
two and scored another while Moore had the Bisons' other RBI.
The Bison are back in action on Monday when they travel to
Pennsylvania to take on the Lancaster Bible College Chargers.
