Box Score Washington, DC.- The Bison battled PSU-Berks, but fell today at
home 14-9. The loss dropped Gallaudet to 2-9-1 on the year.
The win for the Lions was their first of the year as they took
their record to 1-4.
The game started on an inauspicious note, as the sky was overcast
and gloomy-looking. A mix of rain and snow had been forecast for
the afternoon, adding a sense of urgency to the game. The
Lions struck first blood in the early innings as errors once again
allowed the opposition to mount a large lead. But as has
become custom for Gallaudet this season a flurry of late hits put
the team back into contention, but in the end the Bison ran out of
time and innings.
Jeremy
Shepps took the mound for the Bison, coming off his heroic
relief stint at Lancaster Bible. Penn State got on base almost
immediately in the first, due to infield errors, but Shepps managed
to fight his way out.
The early errors left Shepps on the mound for too long so Zane Noschese
came into the game from shortshop in relief of Shepps. Nochese
kept the Penn State offense off-balance long enough to allow
Gallaudet a chance to get back into the game, which the Bison
did with 8 runs in the last four innings. However, an oft-recurring
weakness in the Bison offense reared its head at the worst possible
moment; with Shepps at 2nd and John Moore at
1st, the Bison struck out three times to end the game.
Gallaudet's next game will be a double-header at home, against
CAC opponent Mary Washington on March 22.
