Box Score YORK, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's
basketball team hung tough with York (Pa.) College on the road
Wednesday night in a Capital Athletic Conference game but a strong
second half by the Spartans led them to a 90-67 win over the Bison
before 850 at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
Gallaudet (3-4, 0-3 CAC) held the lead against York (7-1, 1-0
CAC) several times in the first half before the Spartans took over.
York increased its lead to eight, 26-18, with eight minutes to play
before the intermission. GU answered with a 10-2 run to knot the
game at 28. York quickly regained the lead before Gallaudet netted
four points to tie the game, for the final time, at 32 with 1:33
left in the half. York added a 3-pointer to take a 35-32 lead into
the break.
York used two effective runs in the second half consisting of
outscoring the Bison 16-6 and 15-2 as the Spartans built up a
23-point advantage. York went on to outscore Gallaudet by 20,
55-35, in the second half.
GU was led by sophomore guard Tony Tatum
(Birmingham, Ala.) as he netted a team-high 16 points, grabbed
seven rebounds, passed out three assists and made two steals.
Fellow sophomore Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.)
added 13 points while senior guard Johnny Jackson
(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) was the third Bison in double figures with 10
points and four rebounds, assists and steals.
York outrebounded Gallaudet 40-32 as the Spartans shot 50
percent from the field while GU shot 44.1 percent. The
Spartans scored 20 points off 20 Bison turnovers while York had 37
points come from its bench compared to 21 from Gallaudet's bench.
The Spartans had five players reach double figures for points
led by Kevin Whaley's 17 points thanks to four 3-pointers.
Gallaudet returns home to host City College of New York in a
non-conference game on Saturday, December 12, at 2 p.m. in the
Field House.
