WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Salisbury Sea Gulls rode a 17-hit game to
win over Gallaudet in conference play with a 23-2 decision.
However, that did not deter senior captain, catcher/pitcher Ryan Lentz from
belting out a two-run homer over the right field fence at Hoy
Field. At the time, the score was 23-0. Lentz's dinger prevented
the Sea Gulls from shutting the Buff and Blue out. Bill Jacobs was on base
when Lentz stepped up to the plate.
The visitors opened with a seven-run first inning, but the Bison
defense answered in the second, shutting out the Sea Gulls and
forcing them to leave two men on base.
The Bison again stopped Salisbury in the 6th and 7th innings. At
the time of today's game, the Sea Gulls were ranked #20 in the
nation.
Kevin Alley
and Lentz also hit doubles, with Lentz finishing the day 2-for-3 at
the plate. Alley leads the Bison with a .327 average over 15 games
started/played. Both players have one home run apiece.
Warren Keller picked up the loss over three innings of work,
striking out one Sea Gull. Justin Lathus, Eric
Smithson and Lentz also saw mound time. Lentz fanned two Gulls,
allowed no hits and walked one batter over two innings of work.
Gallaudet (1-14, 0-11 CAC) takes the road to Salisbury on
Saturday, March 29 for a doubleheader. The first pitch goes out at
12:00 with another conference doubleheader on Sunday at Villa Julie
College. The start time is also at noon.
