WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Buff and Blue took on the Spartans of York
College in continuing conference play. The Spartans prevailed,
30-2.
Zane Noschese, Eric Smithson and Kevin Alley all shared pitching
duties in a combined defensive effort to give the Bison
offense more time at the plate against a strong Spartan defense.
Gallaudet scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and fifth
innings to avert a shutout.
Warren Keller singled, and advanced to second off a balk. Kevin
Alley then singled, moving Keller to third and setting up Ryan
Lentz at the plate. After Alley stole second, Lentz grounded out
but picked up a RBI when Keller dashed home, also advancing Alley
to third. The inning ended on a double play when John Moore struck
out swinging but not before the ball ricocheted off his bat. Moore
tried to pick up a base but the Spartan catcher picked him off, and
then Kevin Alley was tagged out in an attempt to score at home
plate.
In the next inning, Noschese singled, with Christian Deaton
reaching first on a fielder's choice. Noschese took advantage of a
Spartan error and advanced to second. Justin Lathus extended a
single to second base off another Spartan error, bringing Noschese
home and setting Deaton up at third. Adrian DeHoyos grounded out,
with Eric Smithson popping up to end the inning.
Gallaudet (1-8, 0-5 CAC) travels to Wesley College (Delaware) on
Thursday, March 13 for another conference doubleheader. The first
pitch is set to go at noon.
