WASHINGTON, D.C.—Wednesday Night Basketball concluded with
the tail end of a conference double-header against Villa Julie
College. Gallaudet won, 79-73, making it their first sweep of
a conference opponent this season.
The game was close in the first half, with the Mustangs taking a
slim four-point lead to the locker room, 36-32.
The Bison showed a balanced offense as scoring was spread between
Lance Gonzalez, Jon Mowl, and Johnny Jackson. Between the trio,
Gonzalez and Mowl had seven apiece with Jackson netting eight.
Jackson also pulled down five rebounds.
Over the second half, the Buff and Blue stayed in front with the
Mustangs fighting to keep the game within reach. In the final
minute, a Jon Mowl trey that would have made it 77-73 missed its
mark. The Mustangs had fought back to within one, 74-73. However,
Lance Gonzalez tipped in the carom and extended the Bison lead
76-73.
Onye Davis pulled down a Mustang miss and was fouled with 5.6
seconds remaining. He made one of two shots to make it 77-73. Jon
Mowl then drained two shots from the charity stripe to seal the win
at 79-73.
All five Bison starters finished in double figures, with Johnny
Jackson topping out in a double-double, 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Jon Mowl had 16 points and tied with Lance Gonzalez for a game-high
7 assists. Gonzalez finished with 12 points. Chi Ming Pun followed
with 13, and Onye Davis posted 11 points.
