The Gallaudet Bison women's basketball team entered the 2008-09
season with high expectations, and the long wait for their first
game was well worth it, as Gallaudet defeated Wilson College 78-27
in the Field House.
Gallaudet played up-tempo throughout the game, scoring off both
their half-court offense and fast break opportunities off steals
and defensive rebounds. Ten players scored for Gallaudet as Head Coach Kevin Cook went
deep on his bench to keep fresh players in the game at all times.
Ten players played at least ten minutes, and 4 others played as
well, as Coach Cook has plenty of options this year when choosing
line-ups.
Tonight, three players scored in double figures, led by Ursa Rewolinski with
24 points, Nukeitra Hayes with
14, and Brittainy Payne with
12. Hayes also had a team-high 5 steals as Gallaudet had 16
for the game.
Coach Cook, looking ahead to 3 more homes games next week, was
subdued, but pleased with the team's first game. "It was a
nice team win. I'm happy that everyone contributed. We will
try to build off this effort."
The team returns to the Field House Monday night, for a 6 pm
game vs. Christendom College. Coach Cook will spend the weekend
working on several areas of the game. "We need to improve in
all phases of the game, especially taking care of the ball." One
area the Bison did not do well in tonight, was free throw
shooting. Gallaudet was just 6-14 from the charity stripe.
However as a team, Gallaudet shot 53.7% from the field, going
36-67.
Gallaudet (1-0) next faces Christendom College at 6 pm Monday,
November 24 in the Field House.
