Gallaudet played Mt. Ida tight for the first 30 minutes of
today's game, going into halftime down 6-0, and looked to be on
their way to their second victory of the season, before Mt. Ida
exploded for 31 second half points to defeat the Bison 38-7.
Gallaudet was able to mount several long drives and had a larger
time of possession in each quarter, with the offense staying on the
field for a total of 38 1/2 minutes, compared to 21 1/2 for Mt.
Ida. The difference was the big plays, as Mt. Ida scored on a 50
yard touchdown pass from Tony Tokarz to Kyle Watkins and a 23 yard
fumble return by Theo McCummings in the third quarter to put the
game out of reach.
Gallaudet scored their touchdown in the third quarter on a 36
yard touchdown run by Jimmy Gardner on
fourth down, after a Gallaudet time-out. For the game, Gallaudet
was 5 of 16 on third down conversions.
Kevin Alley
had another big game receiving for Gallaudet with 5 catches for 50
yards. Gardner rushed for 42 yards and was 9 for 21 passing for 51
yards. Jared Vollmer and Adam Tygart led
Gallaudet with 5 tackles each, and Vollmer had one interception. Marti
Blomquist had the other two for Gallaudet.
Next week, Gallaudet will play their first Friday night game
under the lights of Hotchkiss Field, on the turf, when they face
Williamson Trade November 7, at 7 pm. Gallaudet is 1-7 on the
season.
