After 4 weeks on the road, the Gallaudet football team was ready
to play on their home turf, and their fans didn't let them down as
over 2,500 fans came to see the Bison as part of Homecoming
festivities. But Gallaudet wasn't able to take advantage as they
lost 44-9 to Southern Virginia, a tough NAIA school.
Gallaudet got into the red zone four times today but was not
able to capitalize until the fourth quarter, when Jimmy Gardner threw
an 11 yard touchdown pass to Travis Oshman.
Gallaudet also scored on a safety in the fourth quarter when the
Southern Virginia punter couldn't handle the snap and the ball went
out of the end zone.
On defense, Gallaudet was led by Justin Wilson with 8
tackles and one assist. Jared Vollmer had 5
tackles and five assists, and one interception, and Calvin Doudt had 5
tackles and 4 assists. Jarvis Beaver had 4
tackles, 6 assists, one interception, and 2 sacks.
On offense, Derrick Williams
made two outstanding catches for 47 yards, including one for 38
yards.
With the loss, Gallaudet goes to 1-5 on the season. They
play next week on October 25 at Husson College at 12 am. The next
home game will be November 1 at 1 pm against Mt. Ida.
