WASHINGTON,DC--Although the women dropped a hard fought 101-81
to Hood earlier that day, they bounced back on Sunday with a
dominating performance over Hollins College (119-51) and Salem
College (11-0).
“We're in the 'playoffs' now,” said
head coach Bill Snape. “Our goal is to ensure that
every one of our swimmers improves at Championships. Today
was a great way to say thanks to our seniors, but even their jobs
are not yet finished.”
Third-year senior captain Kandace Morris snared the first triple
win of her outstanding career with individual wins in the 50 Free
(28.78) and 100 Fly (1:12.61) and doing the fly leg on the
women's medley relay versus Hollins. Senior Charlotte
Habenicht lead off the women's successful 200 Free Relay
versus Hollins on Sunday, the first win of her entire collegiate
career on her very last swim for the Aqua-Bison.
Freshman Carlisle Robinson continued to dominate, and was nearly
unstoppable in winning five diverse individual events -- 200
Free, 200 IM, 1000 Free, 500 Free and 100 Breast -- over the two
days. Her breaststroke time (1:16.93) was ½ second off
the team record and a personal best.
Other winners included Marissa Larson in the women's 100
Free, 200 Free and the women's medley relays (breaststroke)
versus Hollins; Katie Day in the women's medley relay
(free) versus Hollins; Jodi Winkelmann in the 100 IM, 100 Back and
women's medley relay (back) versus Hollins; Michelle Camara
in the women's free relay versus Hollins; Cloe Canela in the
women's free relay versus Hollins.
The men finish their dual meet season at 3-6 while the women
close out at 4-7. Seven wins is the highest wins total for
the Gallaudet Swim Team in several decades. CAC Swim
Championships will occur February 15-17 at St. Mary's College
in Maryland. All alumni, family members and boosters
are encouraged to attend and cheer the Aqua-Bison on!
