WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The men's side of Saturday's
doubleheader featured a battle between Gallaudet and Salisbury in
the first half. The Bison emerged as victors with a score of
82-77. Coach Jeb Barber notched his first home victory at the Field
House today.
The score was tied 18-all after the Bison fell behind the Sea
Gulls, until a pair of treys by Jon Mowl and Lance Gonzalez tied it
again at 24-all. The Bison then went on a 13-0 run, making it 37-24
before Jonas Vaitkus got Salisbury back in the game. The Sea Gulls
managed to cut a 10-point Bison lead to 3 before Jon Mowl stole an
inbounds pass and sank a buzzer-beating trey to take an eight point
lead into the locker room at halftime. Advantage Gallaudet,
44-36.
Gonzalez and Mowl were in double figures, with 14 and 12 each.
Johnny Jackson had 9 points and 5 boards to pace the Bison.
For the Sea Gulls, Vaitkus was the lone scorer in double figures,
posting 10 and pulling down 5 rebounds.
The second half saw more of the same from the opening stanza, a
closely fought match-up that went to the wire, with free throws
being one of the deciding factors.
Gallaudet converted Sea Gull turnovers into points and the Bison
defense kept the visitors' perimeter shooting at bay to seal the
win.
Four of five Bison starters finished in double figures, with
Lance Gonzalez having a team-high 22, followed by Jon Mowl's 20,
Johnny Jackson's 19 and Onye Davis' 10. Jackson and Davis had
team-high rebounds with 7 apiece.
Salsbury's Greg Palmer had a game-high 23 points and 8 rebounds.
Jonas Vaitkus finished with 18 points and 7 boards, Gary Ward had
16 along with Brandon Abney's 15 to pace the Sea Gulls.
The Bison pick up another conference win, making their record
2-11, 2-4 CAC. The Buff and Blue had 11 three-pointers in today's
contest and shot 47.5% from the field with a 83 % output from the
charity stripe.
