Box Score GRANVILLE,OH—The question that surrounded the Buff and
Blue was which team would show up on the field against the 0-2
Denison University Big Red. Would it be the confident team that
took the field and dominated against the St. Vincent Bearcats, or
would it be the team that let Greensboro College take command?
Unfortunately for the Bison, it would be the latter.
In a 42-0 loss, the teams went through the first quarter
scoreless, Gallaudet was working. The Bison defense picked off two
Denison passes, hoping to provide the offense with the necessary
boost to get the Bison machine up and running. Over the second
quarter, the seams came undone as Denison put up four scores to
take control, 28-0.
The second half saw two more Denison scores that culminated in the
final score. If the same Gallaudet team that took the field on
September 1st shows up again, the remaining teams on this
season's schedule have a big problem on their hands.
On defense, linebacker Calvin Doudt led the troops with nine
tackles, one for loss. Safety Rantz Teeters had two interceptions
and backed up Doudt with 8.5 tackles. Speedster Robin Shannon had
7, including two sacks. At the time of writing, Shannon leads the
nation in tackles for loss, with 9.5*. Defensive end Michel Daze
rounded out the leaders with 5.5, and 1.5 for loss.
The Bison offense will return to the drawing board and look for
ways to get that same offense that ran the St. Vincent Bearcats off
the field. Gallaudet (2-2) takes on Case Western Reserve (4-0) at
home on Saturday, September 29. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
*Tackles-For-Loss stats based on last week's games; national
results are updated on a weekly basis. Shannon has 11.5 tackles for
loss including the Denison game.
