FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary
Washington baseball team swept a doubleheader from Gallaudet
University, 16-4 and 20-1, to improve to 16-7-1 on the season and
6-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.
In the opener, senior Eric Wilkins limited the
Bison to six hits in six innings, allowing one earned run while
walking none and striking out six. Freshman first baseman Will
Wright went 3-4 with four RBI to pace the Eagle offense, with Riley
Gorman adding a home run and Eric Fitzgerald scoring two runs and
driving in two more. Bison shortstop Justin Wilson and second
baseman Ryan Lentz both led the Bison offense with two hits in four
bats apiece. Defensively, catcher Jeremy Dolan and leftfielder Tim
Schwarzenberger both had four put-outs.
Game two saw freshman Jeff Hartman allow just four hits in seven
innings, with six walks and five strikeouts, in earning the win.
Fitzgerald went 3-3 with three runs scored and six RBI, while Chris
Anderson went 3-3 with a run and two RBI. Gallaudet's Justin
Wilson, Kevin Alley and William Jacobs all contributed a hit each
for the Bison Offense. Alley led the defense with five put-outs,
while Wilson was right behind with four.
Gallaudet (4-16, 0-8 CAC) hosts Catholic University in the
penultimate conference game of the season, as the Bison continue to
seek their first CAC victory on the baseball diamond in 2007. The
first pitch is set to go at 3:00 pm.
