LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. - Omar Ongay delivered a two-run
game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the
first game of a doubleheader and added three hits in the nightcap
to help the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball team sweep
Gallaudet University, 7-6 and 11-6 Saturday afternoon.
Ongay was also the winning pitcher in both games as Lincoln
(7-14 overall) extended its winning streak to three games. Ongay
earned the win in relief in the opener by tossing 2.2 innings and
striking out four batters. In the second game, Ongay fanned five
batters.
Joe Kruemmer also added three hits for the Lions in the second
game. Vincent Curtis had two hits including a RBI double to cap an
eight run second inning. The Lions used that huge inning as a
springboard to victory.
In the opening game, Duane Wyse had two hits including his
second home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning.
Ongay and Curtis also had two hits each for Lincoln during an
exciting first game that featured four lead changes and two ties.
The Bison (5-26 overall) took a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh
inning after an Ongay throwing error allowed the go-ahead run to
cross the plate.
However, Ongay redeemed himself in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lions loaded the bases with nobody out. However, when Ongay
stepped to the plate, the bases were still full, the Lions still
trailed and there were two outs. Ongay slapped the first pitch he
saw into right field for the decisive hit. Marvin Hawkins and
Victor Bell scored to give the Lions their second straight win in
their last at-bat.
The Bison jumped to a quick 1-0 lead two batters into the second
game when Kevin Alley slugged a home run to left field. Alley had
two hits and drove in two runs for Gallaudet in the second game. He
also had two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs in the first
game.
Ongay began the eight run inning with a leadoff single. By the
time the bottom of the second inning ended, Lincoln had sent 12 men
to the plate and had an 8-1 advantage.
