WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Bison had a 13-hit game in
the first of a doubleheader against Lincoln at Hoy Field. Those 13
hits also produced 13 runs out of a combined 32 Bison at-bats.
Pitcher Ryan Lentz allowed no earned runs in seven innings
pitched, and gave up five hits, striking out seven in the 30
batters he faced.
Kevin Alley went 5-for-5 from the plate, scoring
three runs, two RBI and stealing two bases, while Jeremy Dolan went
2-for-5, and producing two RBI. Ryan Lentz and Eric Smithson also
contributed two RBI each, along with a run apiece. Catcher Justin
Wilson scored three runs, and a stolen base in a 1-for-3 outing (he
was also hit by a pitch). William Jacobs (1B), Tim Schwarzenberger
(LF), Salvador Acevedo (PH) and Dean Muszyinski (PR) rounded out
the Bison scoring output. Ryan Lentz also hit his first career
triple.
Lincoln's Wyse (SS) was the lone scorer in game
one.
Game
two saw a heated battle, with nine batters being hit by both
Lincoln and Gallaudet pitchers. Lincoln spread its scoring,
leaving only the fifth and sixth innings scoreless. At one point,
the Bison rallied from a 10-6 deficit to go into the top of the
seventh (final inning for doubleheaders) leading 11-10. However,
due to Bison errors, Lincoln capitalized and finished off with four
runs in that inning, preserving a 14-11 lead to deny the Bison a
sweep.
The
Bison (5-23) begin the final week of the season with games against
Columbia Union, Lincoln University, and Christendom College. The
Columbia Union and Christendom College games will be at Hoy field
on Thursday, April 26 and Sunday, April 29; the Bison travel to
Lincoln on Saturday April 28.
