WASHINGTON, DC-The York College baseball team
posted their eighth straight win as they downed Gallaudet
University 26-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday
in Washington, DC. The Spartans improve to 15-4 overall and 3-1 in
the CAC. The Bison fall to 1-13 overall and 0-6 in the
conference.
The Spartans opened the scoring with a six run second inning. York
then blew the game open with an 11-run third inning. The inning
featured 11 Spartan hits and two Bison errors. The highlight of the
frame was a three run homer from catcher Mike Santoro as the junior
has raised his average almost 120 points thanks to a blistering
week at the dish. Gallaudet earned their lone run in the bottom of
the third but York answered with two runs in the fourth, one in the
sixth, two in the seventh, two in the eighth, and two in the ninth
to provide for York's final margin of victory.
The Bison contributed to the Spartans' onslaught with eight
errors, a season-high for the Spartans'
opponents. Jeremy Dolan led the Bison with one hit and
an RBI. Ryan Lentz and Kevin Alley also had singles for Gallaudet.
Dean Muszynksi had the Bison's lone extra base hit with his
seventh inning triple.
Chester Kuschmider suffered the loss for Gallaudet as he tossed
2.2 innings, allowing 17 runs, 16 earned, on 14 hits with one
strikeout and one walk. Brendan Gallagher relieved Kuschmider and
allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 15 hits in 5.1 innings of
action.
Gallaudet continues its home stretch, hosting a
doubleheader against St. Paul's College, against whom they earned
their lone win of the season on March 10 as part of a tournament
hosted by Virginia State University.
