YORK, PA-The York College baseball squad extended their win
streak to six as the Spartans downed the Gallaudet Bison 18-5 in
Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Jaquet Field.
The Spartans improve to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in the CAC while the
Bison fall to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in the conference. York has won
12 of their last 13 games after their 1-3 start to the
season.
The green and white wasted little time in flashing some
offensive muscle as the Spartans struck for seven first inning
runs. The inning was keyed by a Ryan Poff two run double, an
Anthony Anzalone RBI single, a Ryan Craig RBI ground out, a
Jeff Young bases loaded walk, a Dennis Maxim RBI single, and
a Mike Connolly RBI single.
The Bison struck for a pair of runs in the second but York
responded with a long, two-run Anzalone home run to right.
Both teams tallied two runs in the fourth as York led 11-4
through four complete. York tacked on three runs in the fifth.
Anzalone had an RBI single and Craig hit a booming two-run double
to center to provide for the Spartan runs in the frame. Gallaudet
added a single run in the eighth but York notched four more runs in
the bottom of the eighth to provide for the final margin of
victory.
Sophomore Pete Capwell drew the start and was solid as he
tossed six innings, allowing four runs, three earned on six hits
with three strikeouts and no walks. He improves to 1-0 for the
campaign.
Warren Keller started for the Bison and threw 7.2 innings,
allowing 18 runs, 13 earned, on 17 hits with nine walks and one
strikeout.
Offensively, the Spartans were led by Anzalone as the freshman
was 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Craig was 2-for-3
with three RBI and two runs scored while freshman Mark Miloski
(Calverton, NY/Riverhead) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an
RBI. Bryan Bednarczyk (Columbia, MD/River Hill) did not have a hit
in the game but scored four runs for the green and white.
Ryan Lentz led the Bison as the outfielder was 3-for-4 with
three runs scored.
Jeremy Dolan was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Jon
Berscheit was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
