WASHINGTON, D.C.--In the season opening conference matchup, the
Bison looked for their first win, and came up short. Errors from
dropped pop-ups and wild throws to first base were indicators of
youthful inexperience, which gives the team more room to build upon
as the season progresses. The St. Mary Seahawks totaled 14 hits and
produced 19 runs, while the Bison totaled 12 and produced 4.
Centerfielder Kevin Alley (.458 BA, 11 hits in 24 at-bats) went
2-for-5 and scored two runs, with pitcher Jeremy Dolan and
leftfielder Chester Kuschmider (.333, 3 hits in 9 at-bats) both
adding the remaining runs. Alley also stole two bases to set up his
scoring opportunities.
St. Mary's earned the win from a balanced scoring offense, with
11 players contributing at least one run apiece, the most of which
happened in the first inning as the Seahawks jumped ahead to a 7-0
lead before the Bison answered with two in the bottom of the same
inning. The Bison (1-6, 0-1 CAC) take on the Seahawks again in an
away conference matchup on Thursday, March 22. Following that, the
Bison have a home game against non-conference foe Baptist Bible
College at Hoy Field on Friday, March 23.
