WASHINGTON, D.C.--Gallaudet and Catholic offenses followed the
opening tip with "tit-for-tat" offenses, the lead seesawing for the
first 18 minutes, both sides producing 21 points each. The
Cardinals would prevail off Bisn fouls and paint
points, 70-52.
Jon Mowl, Jonathan Valencia, and David Farias lit up the
scoreboard with dial-ins from downtown, and Mowl added another
long-range notch to his opening half performance. Gallaudet came
back from an opening nine-point deficit to tie the game
Catholic took advantage of key Bison fouls to go ahead off free
throws and blocks from big men Stephen Wheeler and Patrick Dwyer.
Gallaudet's Jon Mowl and Sekoe White both took charge of the
offense, producing a combined 12 points in a dead heat against the
1-2 of Cardinals Scott Fumai and Mike Wasilenko, who also teamed up
for 12 points.
The Cardinals went into the half up by 8 points, 32-24, with the
Buff and Blue ready to take the momentum back as second half action
started.
Catholic had other things in mind as they put together an 11-5
run to pad their lead.
Valencia worked the baseline getting baskets in between big men
to nip at the lead and close to within eight points, and then Mowl
helped out with another downtown dial-in to freeze the Cardinal
offense and come within six, 47-41.
That was as close as the Bison would get, despite valiant
efforts from White, who fouled out with 5 minutes to play.
Gallaudet's other big man, Onye Davis followed suit at the 3-minute
mark.
Jon Mowl closed off the Bison scoring in the closing minutes
with a pair of back-to-back treys. He would finish with a team-high
15 points and four assists. Valencia added 13 points, while Sekoe
White garnered 11 and a team-high 6 rebounds.
