WASHINGTON, DC--In a matchup of rivals, the Bison were looking
to avenge their 2006 defeat--however, the Becker College Hawks took
advantage of Bison miscues and earned their first victory in 2007
with a final score of 30-6.
Becker scored first, on an 87-yard play by running back Levi
Smith. The Bison answered with a Jason Coleman punch-in for six in
the second quarter to keep it close, 8-6. Unfortunately, this would
be the only score the Buff and Blue would see on an unusually
heated October Saturday.
The Hawks led the rest of the way, with scores by Jacques
Faubles (TD reception), Anthony Johnson (3-yd run) and D'Andre
Stringe (83-yd run). The Hawks converted all but one of their
two-point conversions. The key factor in the Hawk win was
Gallaudet's three fumbles that set up the Hawks with good field
position for scoring opportunities.
On defense, safety Rantz Teeters picked off a pass, Robin
Shannon led the team with 10.5 total tackles, including a sack and
2.5 tackles for loss. Brothers Calvin and Joshua Doudt had 7 and
5.5 tackles, respectively.
At the half, Bison quarterback Jason Coleman was 10-for-13, but
finished 16-for-31, picking up 180 yards in the air and the only
touchdown. He ran for 80 yards as well. Wide Receiver Cole Johnson
led the receiving effort with five catches for 69 yards. Kevin
Alley had 46 yards off 4 catches.
The Bison have a week off before taking on Williamson Trade in
the homecoming game matchup on Saturday, October 20. Kickoff is at
1:00 p.m.
