The Gallaudet Women's basketball team
celebrated their return from the holidays with a dominating victory
against the Wilson College Lady Phoenix, winning 68-36. Freshman
Brittainy Payne paved the way with the most impressive performance
of her young collegiate career, pouring in 25 points and pulling
down 21 rebounds. The game, which featured two short benches making
fatigue a factor for both coaches, opened with the Lady Bison being
aggressive with their transition offense which, despite some
turnovers, resulted in a sizable 30-16 halftime lead although the
Lady Phoenix had clawed their way to within points midway through
the half. Their inside dominance continued in the second half as
Payne registered 14 rebounds to go with her 17 points. Senior Pia
Marie Paulone chipped in with an all-around 17 points, 6 rebounds
and 4 assists. The Lady Bison outpaced the Lady Phoenix off the
boards 56-23, a two to one margin.
The next match for the Lady Bison comes up on the
road, Wednesday January 10th against Capital Athletic Conference
opponent Goucher College, at 5:30 pm. The men's game follows
at 7:30pm.
