WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Lady Bison
took on the York Spartans, and struggled to stay in the game,
losing 66-49. The Buff and Blue started off well behind a strong
start by
Tamijo Foronda, who keyed good scoring spurts during the
first half. She turned in a near-perfect performance at the line,
and contributed other points through attacking the paint. She had
11 points and 8 rebounds going into the half. Fellow guard Pia
Marie Paulone did a solid job running the offense with her passing,
and turned in 4 points and 5 rebounds, and
Shabnam Razmpour,
returning for her first game in three weeks due to a foot injury,
made things difficult for the Spartans down low. The game settled
down into a seesaw match with little scoring until the teams came
close to 20 points each in the half. York then turned on the
engines, and ran away with the lead going into the locker
room.
Coming out of the half, the Lady Bison geared towards a strong
opening spurt, but York continued its scoring run from the first
half, and never looked back. Spartan Chanel Perez kept up her
strong play, and the Bison found it difficult to sustain a scoring
run while trying to keep up with the Spartans. York had a balanced
offense in the second half, as opposed to Perez leading them in the
first with 13 points. Near the end of the game, the Bison would
click, keyed by Paulone's seven point effort, but it would be
for naught as York maintained an iron grip on their large lead.
Foronda would chip in 6 more points for a game-high total of 17
points and 13 rebounds, notching a double-double. Senior forward
Jessica Salisbury grabbed nine boards, along with six points to
round out the scoring/rebounding leaders.
Next up for the Bison (3-15, 0-8 CAC) is a road trip to Salisbury
State University (10-8, 4-4 CAC). Tip time is at 5:30
p.m.
