ALLENTOWN, Pa. – In the highly anticipated rematch between the top two women's flag football teams in the United East Conference it was Gallaudet University that rose victorious once more with a 38-19 win over Penn State Harrisburg here Saturday on the campus of Cedar Crest College.
The Bison completed the Saturday conference sweep with a 34-6 victory over the host Falcons from Cedar Crest College.
Gallaudet (9-1, 6-0 United East) and Penn State Harrisburg (7-2, 5-2 United East) both clinched a spot in the upcoming United East tournament on April 25. The Bison have the inside track to the top-seed and hosting rights with only two conference games left.
The Lions defeated Cedar Crest (5-5, 1-5 United East) by the score of 35-7 in the third conference game on Saturday.
Gallaudet 38, Penn St. Harrisburg 19
The Bison aired things out against the Lions as Gallaudet completed 28 of 37 passes for 301 yards and five touchdowns.
Sophomore quarterback
Gianna Visco (Riverside, Calif.) led the way with 293 yards and four scores on 27 of 35 passes thrown. Sophomore
Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) added an eight-yard touchdown pass to the mix for the buff and blue.
Sophomore wide receiver
Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) caught a team best nine passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns. First year
Tiana Starayev (Noblesville, Ind.) had four catches for 87 yards while Lummer hauled in five passes for 56 yards and one score.
First year
Tamara Tadevosyan (Austin, Texas) tallied two touchdown passes caught and 15 yards on three catches and anchored the defense with nine tackles. First year
Evangeline Diaz (Cedar Park, Texas) was second on the team with six tackles while Lummer added two and made one interception and returned it 16 yards.
Visco led the Bison ground attack with 35 rushing yards on 11 carries.
GU led 13-0 after the first quarter and took a 19-13 lead into halftime. The Bison outscored the Lions, 19-6, in the second half. Every quarter total was either 0, 6 or 13 for both teams.
Gallaudet 34, Cedar Crest 6
The Bison outscored the Falcons 27-0 over the final three quarters to break open a close contest that saw GU lead 7-6 after the first quarter.
Visco continued to add to her impressive season statistics as she completed 20 of 28 passes for 204 yards and four touchdowns. She added eight rushes for 71 yards and one score. The Bison trio of Zarembka, Lummer and Starayev continued to be the favorite targets for Visco.
Zarembka made six catches for 74 yards and one score; Lummer added five catches and 56 yards and one score while Starayev brought in three passes for 35 yards and one score. Tadevosyan had GU's fourth touchdown pass on a 10-yard Visco toss.
GU limited Cedar Crest to just 18 rushing yards as sophomore
Sofia Giansanti (Rome, Italy) made seven tackles to lead the Bison defense. Lummer chipped in six tackles while Diaz had four stops.
UP NEXT
GU returns home and will host a United East tri-match next Saturday, April 18. GU will play Cedar Crest at 11 a.m. before the Falcons play Keystone College (2-6, 2-5 United East) at 12:30 p.m. The Bison will complete the day with a game against the Giants at 2 p.m.
