Seniors provide the spark against the Shock

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team won in their second match of a back-to-back-to-back with a non-conference bout with the Washington Adventist University Shock Thursday night on Padden Court winning in straight sets.

Gallaudet (12-9, 3-2 United East) defeated the Shock (2-4) with set scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-11 making it two sweeps so far this week.

Senior outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) and senior outside hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) paced the Bison with 11 kills. Worley and Zarembka completed their double-double with double digit dig totals of 11 and 10, respectively. Worley's 11 digs led all players, and she also added four aces to top off a great offensive night.

Sophomore middle hitter Kayla Debrow (Jacksonville, Fla.) was nearly perfect at the net recording a match high four blocks (two solo) and tallied seven kills on just eight attempts. First-year setter Gracie Gloster (Clark, N.J.) commanded the offense for the Bison dishing out 21 assists

Gallaudet finished with 34 kills and a .324 hitting percentage while limiting Washington Adventist to 21 kills and a .075 hitting percentage. From the service line, the Bison dominated tallying 17 aces and only four service errors compared to six aces and five service errors for the Shock.

Despite the impressive closing stat line for the Bison, WAU held their own through most of the first and second sets. After Gallaudet started the match with a 10-3 run and went point for point to bring it to 15-7, the Shock answered with a 5-0 run of their own to bring the score to 15-12 before a service ace brought first year Tori Harris (Stockbridge, Ga.) to the service line and she rattled off four straight aces to put the first out of reach.

In the second set, the Shock started hot. They opened the set taking a 1-4 lead. In the next 20 points no team gained or lost any ground until at 11-14, Gallaudet found their rhythm to the tune of a 7-1 run, pulling ahead to a 18-15 lead. After a WAU kill, Washington Adventist's Kasyra Green caught fire from the service line with two aces and the set was tied again. However, when the game entered the Red Zone (scores over 20) the Bison locked in and scored five straight including three kills from Zarembka to win set two.

The third and final set didn't have the same fireworks as the previous set did. The Shock showed life early starting with a 8-6 lead, but the Bison earned 16 of the next 17 points and in the blink of an eye it was 22-9. Worley put the game to rest with a kill to end the set at 25-11.

The Shock were paced by Ariyanna Gross who had seven kills, three aces, two blocks, and 11 digs, each stat leading the team. Se'Maiya Farrow handed out 13 assists to her team.
