WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University and Washington Adventist University met on the men's basketball court for the first time in a long time as the nearby NAIA program came over to the Field House on Thursday evening.
Gallaudet (2-14) had its hands full with Washington Adventist (11-9) as the Shock drained 10 3-pointers and shot well from the field while the Bison couldn't find their shooting touch from outside in an 82-65 non-conference loss.
Sophomore guard
Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.) led the way with a game-high 22 points to go with nine rebounds. This was Ortman's sixth game, third straight, where he scored 20 or more points.
Senior guard
Kyle Florio (Franklin, Mass.) led the Bison with three 3-pointers made and finished with 11 points. On his final two 3-pointers of the game he was assisted by his younger brother,
Luke Florio (St. Augustine, Fla.), a sophomore guard on the team.
Sophomore guard
Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.) scored nine points, made five steals and grabbed four rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. Fellow sophomore guard
Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) added eight points, six assists and three steals in the loss.
The Shock had four players in double figures led by senior guard Joey Brown IV with 18 points and seven rebounds. Fellow senior guard Chase Cooke chipped in 16 points and four assists while senior forward Anthony Perry had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Graduate student Felix McGhee was the fourth visitor in double figures with 12 points. Washington Adventist led 34-25 at the half.
This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Takoma Park, Md., but got postponed due to the recent snowstorm in the DMV region which closed both campuses and forced the make-up to GU's campus.
