Gallaudet sweeps Hood in home opener

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team swept Hood College, 3-0, here Tuesday evening in the home opener before a crowd of 233 in the Field House. The Bison made quick work of the Blazers as GU won in straight sets 25-10, 25-13, 25-18.

The Bison (6-3) took the lead and cruised comfortably in the first two sets as Blazers (4-5) never took the lead with GU winning 25-10 and 25-13. 

Hood regrouped in the third set and gave GU a hard time with six ties and five lead changes but the buff and blue managed to win the third set to seal the victory.

Junior outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) led the team with a match-high 13 kills followed by senior outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) with 10 kills. Lummer added 17 digs to record her fifth double-double of the season. 

Senior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out a match-high 30 assists and tallied three service aces. Worley matched Gamble with three service aces as GU finished with 10 for the night.

Hood was led by Maria Ricketts' nine assists, eight digs and one ace in the loss.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will next host the annual Worthington Classic this Friday and Saturday in the Field House. The tournament will feature seven teams and 14 matches over the course of two days. GU begins the tournament on Friday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. against Franklin & Marshall College (8-1), who is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll.
