Season Preview: Impactful runners to make a splash in 2025 for GU men's cross country

WASHINGTON – It is just about time to lace up those running shoes and watch the Gallaudet University cross country teams compete on Saturdays in the fall.

The Bison men's cross country team is primed to turn some heads as an impactful first-year runner and the return of the 2023 United East Rookie of the Year could combine to provide Gallaudet with a solid one, two punch. First-year runner Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.) is a highly anticipated runner to join the Bison program in a very long time. Sophomore Roberto Torres (Miami Gardens, Fla.) returns after a year off ready to pick up where he left off in 2023 when he was the top first-year runner and finished with a second team all-conference honor.

Plus, the Bison return their top runner from last year in Sincere Vazquez (Hollywood, Fla.), who was a third team all-conference runner.

Below is a breakdown of the 2025 Gallaudet men's cross country team.

2024 Review
United East Championship: 9th place
Highlights: Gallaudet first-year runner Sincere Vazquez earned third all-conference honors with a 29th place finish at the 2024 United East championships.

TOP RETURNERS
Gabe Cadete (Nashua, N.H.), So.
Cadete was the third Bison to finish the 2025 United East championship race in 60th place with a time of 34:41.98. Cadete is also a long distance runner on the Bison track and field teams.

Roberto Torres (Miami Gardens, Fla.), So.
Torres returns to the cross country team after missing last season. The 2023 United East Men's Rookie of the Year and second team all-conference runner could help lead the buff and blue in 2025. Torres has been busy with track and field the past two seasons.

Sincere Vazquez (Hollywood, Fla.), So.
The first-year runner was Gallaudet's best performer last season as he earned third team all-conference honors with a 29th place finish with a time of 31:10.06 at the United East championships.

KEY LOSSES
Jared Spinale (Camby, Ind.)
Spinale was a mainstay on the Gallaudet men's cross country team for years (2018-19, 22-24) and a leader that will be hard to be replaced.

IMPACTFUL ADDITION
Sevan Ikeda (Fremont, Calif.)
The first-year runner is primed to make a statement in 2025. Ikeda's preseason times were some of the best in program history. His debut in the buff and blue is much anticipated.

QUOTING COACH
