AUSTIN, Texas - On June 16-20, Gallaudet Men's and Women's basketball teams hosted the 4th annual John Perry basketball summer camp for grades 7-12 deaf and hard of hearing students held at Texas School for the Deaf. Camps were previously hosted at American School for the Deaf (West Hartford, Conn.) and California School for the Deaf (Fremont, Calif.).

The camp is in honor of four year player and 15 year assistant coach John Perry who contributed to the basketball program. There were 44 campers that attended the camp. 

Campers received positive experiences and learned basketball fundamentals. The campers had competitive on-court activities all week pushed by several former, current and upcoming Gallaudet basketball student-athletes. 

"We love working with campers from all over the country and sharing the gift of basketball and life lessons." said Gallaudet Men's Basketball Coach Kevin Kovacs.

They had stations to work on their skills, remember all the things they learned, set the goals to become a better basketball player. They had a lot of one on one, three on three and five on five structured scrimmage games. After the camp, Coaches and student-athletes recognized the campers in various ways.

"Grateful for the opportunity to work with 44 campers from across the country, focusing on developing individual skills and building team chemistry." said Gallaudet Women's Basketball Coach Stephanie Stevens. "Special thanks to our incredible camp coaches for keeping up with the energy of our youthful and excited campers. We couldn't have done it without the amazing support from TSD's athletic and support staff. Here's to growth, teamwork, and memories made!"

Gallaudet Men's and Women's Basketball programs expressed their gratitude to Toby Daniels, Texas School for the Deaf Athletics Specialist and his team for their support in making the camp a success.
