Atkinson picks up three CSC Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Awards

WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University Associate Athletic Director for Communications Sam Atkinson collected three awards at the district level of the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.

Atkinson was selected for three runner-up awards for the College Division in District 2.

The following stories were honored; Coach/Administrator Profile titled; "Stephanie Stevens promoted to Senior Woman Administrator" from Sept. 18, 2024; General Feature/Blog titled; "Gallaudet Athletics Department recognizes student athletes at GSPY banquet" from April 30, 2024; Historical Feature titled; "Gallaudet alum Brian Bippus inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame" from March 21, 2024 with an assist from Robert Weinstock from University Communications.

"It is an honor to promote and tell the stories of Gallaudet athletics and these awards are a reflection of the caliber of student-athletes, coaches, staff and alumni we have here and the stories we are able to share with the world," said Atkinson, a CSC Past President.

Gallaudet competes in District 2 which includes the states of Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. All submissions must have been published during the 2024 calendar year (January 1-December 31) and contestants were limited to one entry per category.

CSC members in all eight districts submitted nearly 500 articles in seven categories. More than 100 articles written by CSC members were honored as district winners. Each category is first judged on the district level, as the winners advance to the national level for national consideration.

For the second time this year, the contest was split into University and College divisions, allowing the recognition of the work done by members from smaller offices without as much time to devote to longer feature writing.

Atkinson earned two Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest awards last year and now has five in his career. He holds a pair of Creative & Digital Design Awards (2008, '09) that he earned during his time at Salisbury University.
