WASHINGTON - The 155th Gallaudet University commencement on Friday, May 16, celebrated hundreds of students receiving their respective degrees. In the graduating class there are 52 Bison student-athletes, assistant coaches, team managers, student assistants/interns/graduate assistants, club members and student workers that received their degrees before a festive and supportive crowd of alumni, family and friends.
The 52 graduates are confirmed student-athletes, assistant coaches, team managers, student assistants/interns/graduate assistant, club members and student workers that were on an active athletic roster/staff during the 2024-25 season and met their degree requirements; completed August 2024, December 2024, May 2025 or slated for completion in August 2025. Of the 52 athletic graduates, 17 graduated with honors (University Honors, Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude). Mara Land (Women's Swimming, Triathlon) and Blessed Mbogo (men's basketball) are two of the 14 students, who earned University Honors along with Summa Cum Laude distinctions.
The Athletics Department was well represented as 24 different sports/offices/clubs were represented with at least one graduate. Football and women's triathlon led the way with eight graduates each followed by women's swimming with six and Athletic Communications with five. Five different sports, cheerleading, men's soccer, softball, women's basketball, women's volleyball had four graduates each. Nineteen of the 24 different sports/offices/clubs had multiple graduates
The Gallaudet athletics department also wants to congratulate 45 former student-athletes, assistant coaches, team managers, student assistants/interns, club members that completed their degrees and graduated on Friday.
